Crosman 2240 - CO2 Air Pistol
If spending an afternoon at the gun range is what you consider fun, you might like to take a Crosman 2240 the next trip out. This air pistol is powered by CO2 so you can hit the target faster. It's not your average looking pistol and after your first round, it might just become one of your favorites.Crosman has been offering a variety of BB and pellet pistols and handguns for decades. Experimentation of CO2 began in the 1930's in which the gun had an actual chamber on it that held the CO2 instead of the cartridges that we know of today. In fact, Crosman has been in the lead of creating innovative cartridges to improve on safety and improve effectiveness of the contents of each cartridge.
The Crosman 2240 is not your typical looking pistol as the rifled steel barrel is longer than the average pistol. The overall length of the gun is 11.25 inches. The synthetic grip, which looks similar to that of the 1377, is ergonomically designed and can be held comfortably be either a lefty or a righty. The grip also has checkering along with a thumbrest on both of the pistols grip panels. Also, the receiver is a plastic and would be more exciting if it were metal.
The bolt design has been improved to give the shooter an easier time while cocking and loading. The mechanism is bolt action and the overall gun offers great balance and is very accurate. Comfort and power all wrapped up into one small package which weighs a mere 1.81 pounds.
The rear sight is fully open and can be adjusted. To upgrade the Crosman 2240, a scope and a barrel clamp can be added for a better aim if you need it. The site is designed to help you direct the .22 caliber pellet which flies out of the chamber (it's a single shot) up to 460 fps so that you'll hit your target at dead center. If the site needs to be adjusted, a small screwdriver will correct that issue for you.
For right out of the box, this air pistol which sells for just under $60 bucks is a great pistol. Using CO2 instead of pumping gives you more power. If you use your Crosman 2240 in cooler temperatures, don't expect to get the same results that you receive in warmer temps. In cooler temperatures, the CO2 reacts differently and gives the pistol a sluggish performance.
Being an extremely popular air pistol, there are a number of aftermarket parts if you want to beef the pistol up a bit. As is, it's a great gun that doesn't require much to have fun during shooting practice. It's balanced, has a lot of power from the CO2 and you should get about 40 shots per cartridge.
When you are purchasing your 2240, don't forget to pick up a tube of Crosman Pellgunoil to keep the gun operating smoothly. Always keep safety in mind when handling the gun; keep the safety on, safety glasses on the face and ear plugs in the ears. Most of all, have fun and enjoy shooting your Crosman 2240.
